RAFIZI Ramli, defeated in the race to become PKR deputy president, has been appointed as one of PKR’s vice-presidents.

Apart from Rafizi, Tanjung Malim MP Chang Lih Kang and Saratok MP Ali Biju have also been appointed as vice-presidents.

Ali will represent the interests of Sabah and Sarawak in the party’s central leadership council (MPP).

The appointments were announced by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim after a MPP meeting today.

Former Pandan MP Rafizi gave a tough fight to incumbent Azmin Ali for the deputy president’s post before conceding defeat in the final minutes despite disputing his rival’s vote count.

He was an elected vice-president in the previous term.

PKR has lost its most senior vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar after she quit her position earlier this month.

The party’s constitution allows for the appointment of three vice-presidents to work alongside the four elected leaders. Apart from that, the leaders of PKR’s Youth and women’s wings are also considered as vice-presidents.

Apart from the appointments of the vice-presidents, the party also made other appointments.

Hang Tuah Jaya MP Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin has been named as the party’s information chief, while Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has been announced as PKR’s supervising secretary.

Saifuddin Nasution Ismail remains as the party’s secretary-general.

Anwar also named Segamat MP Edmund R. Santhara Kumar as the party’s deputy secretary-general, while Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin and S. Manivanan have been appointed as PKR’s deputy information chiefs.

Nibong Tebal MP Mansor Othman is now PKR’s strategic director, while Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil has been appointed as its communications director.

The meeting also proposed former party vice-president Tian Chua to lead the membership committee, while Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye is to lead PKR’s central election committee (JPP). – December 28, 2018.
