POLICE have urged the public to remain calm and refrain from making unnecessary comments on social media following the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani told The Malaysian Insight that nevertheless, his men have been put on standby to face any eventuality.

“In this trying time, let us all remain calm and and stop hurting each other’s feelings. Being emotional over this issue is not going to help improve the situation.

“Having said that, the Internal Security and Public Order Division has been put on standby and is ready for any situation.

“We want public order to be restored for the good of our nation.”

Acyrl’s comments come after social media users said the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple committee is responsible for Adib’s death.

Following the violence that broke out on November 26, the temple called on Hindus nationwide to stand up and protect their houses of worship.

Adib was allegedly pulled out of a fire truck and attacked by a mob when firefighters were responding to an emergency at the temple, located in Subang Jaya.

The temple authorities, however, said Adib was hit by a reversing fire truck after rioters started pelting the firemen with stones.

Earlier this month, police announced that they had arrested four suspects in connection with the assault on Adib.

The four were remanded, and later released on bail.

Police have classified the case as murder. – December 18, 2018.
