AMANAH must ensure its manifesto promises are delivered, delegates at its second convention in Ipoh told party leaders today.

“The opposition is currently using our manifesto to attack us. As such, we must try our best to honour the election promises to blunt their attacks,” said Pahang delegate Sazli Mohd Nor

Youth delegate Ahmad Attan said Amanah had won big during the elections due to its promises.

“As such, we have a duty to ensure these promises are kept,” said Ahmad.

Although, the smallest component party in Pakatan Harapan, Amanah has a large representation in the cabinet relative to its 11 parliament seats.

The party has five ministers and five deputy ministers, as well as three senators.

Amanah also has a chief minister (Malacca) and 13  state executive councillors in; Johor (3), Malacca (2), Negri Sembilan (1), Selangor (2), Perak (3), and Kedah (2) from the 34 state seats it won in the last elections.

Sazli also said Amanah must promote its religious scholars to match PAS.

“Malay-Muslims, in general, do not see Amanah as a party able to compete with PAS,” said Sazli.

“Village politics is different from the city, where villagers want to see more of our religious scholars.

“We must elevate our ulama and ustaz to positions that will improve their standing in the community,” said Sazli. – December 15, 2018.
