URGING Malays to reject all forms of extremism, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu today accused PAS of colluding with those who have destroyed the Malay race, saying “together they stood on one lorry last week”.
Mohamad, or popularly known as Mat Sabu, pointed to the anti-ICERD rally last Saturday which saw PAS leaders on the same stage with Umno leaders, such as Najib Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who both face multiple charges of corruption and abuse of power.
“They (PAS leaders) are willing to collude with these corruptors who have destroyed the country under the banner of race and religion. And together they stood on one lorry last week,” said Mat Sabu, who is also defence minister.
Malay-Muslims must reject racial and religious extremism or risk destroying a multiracial, multi-religious Malaysia, he said.
“If Malays focus their struggle on racial and religious politics, it will only take them into an emotional battle which will play into the hands of irresponsible leaders.
“There is already the view for Muslims to back Malay-Muslims who do evil, are corrupt and oppress the people because it will take them to heaven.
Amanah believes that harmony lies on improving the economy and ensuring that wealth is shared by all regardless of race or religion, Mohamad said.
“The government must, at the same time, ensure that the freedom given is not abused by those who want to ignite racial and religious hatred to achieve their own political agenda.
“If questioning the Malay and Bumiputera rights in the constitution is seen as extreme, it is equally wrong to question the citizenships given to non-Malays.”
He said the government is responsible for ensuring stability and harmony between the races and that any contest for rights should not be at the detriment of others.
“The constitution is not a zero-sum game where the rights and interests of one party must be sacrificed for others.
“Sadly, the two Malay opposition parties, PAS and Umno, have now stirred racial and religious sentiments to defend their popularity. Such irresponsible politics will only produce extreme racists and break apart the country.”
He said that Malays must realise that they are not lagging behind because of the existence of other races in the country but because of their own attitudes.
“There are still many who are willing to keep quiet when corruption has affected Malay interests. They should instead speak up about scandals involving Felda, Tabung Haji, Felcra.” – December 14, 2018.
