BERSATU has not yet decided whether it will accept any of the five MPs from Sabah who quit Umno yesterday, said supreme council member Rais Hussin.
He said Bersatu would consult the other Pakatan Harapan parties, as well as its allied parties in Sabah.
“Everyone has their perspectives and stands about such political movements. Bersatu has its own views, and we need to study the matter.
“For now, we are observing and evaluating the situation. We’ll make an announcement when the right time comes,” he said this evening.
He was responding to criticism from DAP’s Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who earlier today urged the PH leadership not to accept those who had left Umno, saying it would erode public trust in PH’s reformation agenda.
Rais said politics were dynamic, and it was important that the Sabah MPs who had left Umno had declared their support for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the PH government, and Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal.
The MPs from Sabah who quit Umno yesterday are currently independents.
With their departure, the party has lost 11 MPs and now has 43 seats in Parliament, compared with the 54 it won in the 14th general election. – December 13, 2018.
