BUNG Moktar Radin has been appointed the Sabah Umno liaison committee chairman, hours after the departure of party MPs and assemblymen in the state.
Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa announced the Kinabatang MP’s appointment in a press conference..
“Sabah will be led by Bung Moktar while Sepanggar division chief Yakub Khan will be his deputy,” he said
Annuar said Jefri Ariffin is the new secretary and former Tenom MP Raime Unggim, the information chief.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who attended the press conference, said the two vice-presidents Ismail Sabri Yaacob and Mahdhir Khalid will head to Kota Kinabalu to help restructure the Sabah chapter.
Zahid said Sabah Umno would not be dissolved even though the leaders have left.
“Immediate action has been taken to reshuffle the state liaison committee. From tomorrow, the new Umno Sabah leadership will be in place.”
He said the Umno constitution states that in the event a division chief quits, the deputy takes over. The deputy is the acting chief until the division’s next annual general meeting is held.
Bung Moktar and former chief minister Musa Aman are the last two Umno elected representatives in the state. – December 12, 2018.
