MORE than 100 Lynas employees turned up at Parliament this morning to hand over a memorandum urging the government to guarantee their jobs following Putrajaya’s imposition of tough new conditions for the rare earth refinery to continue operating in Malaysia.

The group gathered outside Parliament in the morning, holding placards reading “Be Fair to Lynas” and “We are victims of circumstance”.

The employees’ spokesperson, senior human resources manager Jumaat Mansor said the staff hoped that the government would base all its decisions on the Australian company on scientific research.

“Today we are representing Lynas workers, not the management. We want justice and job security.

“Lynas has been inspected eight times and all the experts’ research have found that our operations are safe,” he told reporters after handing over the memorandum to a government representative. – December 11, 2018.

MORE TO COME.

  • Lynas senior management --- you had 6 years to build the PDF. What have you been doing all the while -- besides engaging in propaganda ? Lynas employees also at risk -- from the radiation coming from the wastes piling up and up onsite, and from the radioactive dust you carry back to your young ones and elderly parents on your work clothes. No ands or ifs or buts. No removal of radioactive thorium and radioactive uranium wastes from the site = plant gets shut down.

  • someone must be selling them the idea to march and paying for it, honestly its just too bad they can't see the long term effect and seeing putting food on the table.

  • Lynas is using their employees now to gain the sympathetic vote. Podah!
For the 100 employees, should the government compromise on the years and years of environment deterioration caused by radio active waste, and most importantly at the expense of the current and all future generations?
Is Lynas going to take responsibility for all deformed babies born attributed to the leakage of radio active waste causing massive contamination of the natural water tables.. Eventually, Kuantan will become a ghost town!

  • Its only 100 employees. They should be able to get jobs elsewhere. The ministry can render support as well.

  • It seems there is an agenda here..
The HR manager says they are representing the employees. That being the case, ask Governments to secure alternative jobs for them.. No need to mention that the government should assess Lynas based on scientific reports.
Who the hell cares about your reports.. obviously doctored! Because everyone knows that once the 450,000 metric tons of radio active leaches into the soil, Kuantan and the neighbouring towns, villages, communities are destroyed!
