TWO organisers of the rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) gave their statements at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.
Representatives of Gerakan Pembela Ummah and Pertubuhan Muafakat Sejahtera Masyarakat Malaysia arrived at 4pm and spent more than 40 minutes having their statements recorded.
Ummah chairman Aminuddin Yahaya said they gave full cooperation to police.
“We are ready to return if we are called back,” he told reporters.
Police are investigating the presence of children at Saturday’s mega rally in Kuala Lumpur, which saw tens of thousands participating.
Taking children to rallies is an offence under Section 4 (2)(f) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, with offenders facing a fine of up to RM20,000 upon conviction.
Aminuddin said the organisers had issued a standard operating procedure to be heeded by all rally-goers.
“This proves that we (the organisers) took the necessary steps. Perhaps, there were those who also wanted to go shopping with their children.”
On November 23, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that the Pakatan Harapan government will not ratify ICERD. – Bernama, December 10, 2018.
