FORMER prime minister Najib Razak and sacked 1Malaysia Development Bhd chief Arul Kanda Kandasamy are expected to be charged in court on Wednesday with allegedly tampering with the auditor-general’s report on the scandal-ridden state investment firm.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission sources said Najib will be charged with abuse of power by instructing the then auditor-general to amend the report. Former 1MDB president Arul Kanda is expected to be charged with abetting Najib.
They are expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
Najib was arrested by MACC this morning after he showed up at its headquarters for questioning.
He was also questioned over the issue by MACC last Thursday.
A day earlier, former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad was also summoned to help in the same investigation.
Dzulkifli is among witnesses sought by MACC after it compared the original 1MDB audit report with the version that was released by the National Audit Department.
The investigation was prompted by Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad’s revelations on November 25 that the final 1MDB audit report was modified upon orders of then prime minister Najib.
Madinah said two key points were removed from the report, which were the presence of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, in a 1MDB board meeting and the state investor’s financial status.
Following Madinah’s statement, MACC opened fresh investigation papers and announced they would call up several individuals to assist in the probe. – December 10, 2018.
