POLICE have picked up several wanted terror suspects in counter terror operations ahead of the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games, Malaysia’s top cop said today.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the terror suspects were local and foreign, but declined to give more details, saying all will be revealed in due time.

“Local (terrorists) also got, foreign (terrorists) also got… They are terrorists, of course they are dangerous.

“Our counter-terrorism unit, we have picked up a few wanted terrorists in the ops and we will announce it when we are ready,” Khalid said at a press conference at Bukit Aman police headquarters today.

The Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter-Terrorism Division began beefing up security early this month in preparation for the 29th Sea Games.

CT members are equipped with radioactivity-detecting devices to zoom in on radioactive materials used by terrorists in large areas.

CT operations have been focused in the Klang Valley, Kedah and Terengganu. So far, 257 foreigners have been detained and screened against the Interpol’s terrorist list, Special Branch database, National Registration Department and Immigration database. – August 21, 2017.
