AFTER three days of violence, calm has descended on the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya.

However, there is still a heavy police presence at the 147-year-old temple, which came under attack by some 50 masked men on Monday, to ensure no further unrest unfolds.

In the wee hours of today, several police trucks were seen outside the temple, and Federal Reserve Unit officers kept watch at the house of worship’s entrance.

Devotee S. Ashok said worshippers are grateful for the peace, and look forward to sprucing up the temple now that the incident has passed.

“We need to fix all the fences, install CCTVs, and then, we will look at the other areas. This is to ensure that the temple is protected,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

He said he is planning to get religious leaders to gather at the temple.

“It would be a special gathering to show our unity after all that has happened.”

In a bid to beautify the temple grounds, Ashok said he will suggest that a mural be painted on the wall behind the structure.

“I will speak to a friend about helping to do the mural, which would be on the history of our temple and Malaysian culture.”

Ashok, who has been coming to the temple for the last 20 years, also hopes to see more volunteers come in to clean up the area.

“We hope to get the support of the community. There is a lot that needs to be done here.” – November 29, 2018.
