THE proposed debate between former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz hit a snag today after police revoked the permit which was approved a day earlier.

This is the second time police have stopped the event from taking place.

They had initially refused the event organiser, Karangkraf Group, a permit for the debate, which was to have taken place in Padang Rengas, Perak, on March 25.

Earlier today, Karangkraf chief executive officer Hussamuddin Yaacub tweeted a snapshot of the letter from the Shah Alam police district headquarters, informing them the permit had been revoked.

The picture showed that the letter was dated today, and the paragraph stating that the police permit granted yesterday had been cancelled.

The debate was to have been held at Kompleks Karangkraf in Shah Alam this Friday.

The debate between the two politicians was initially planned for March 25 in Padang Rengas – Nazri’s parliamentary constituency.

But that did not take place after Perak police refused to grant a permit for the debate at MRSM Sultan Azlan Shah, citing security concerns.

The event was expected to draw a large crowd as both politicians had earlier agreed to debate on controversial issues, including the 1Malaysia Development Berhad and MBF scandals. – April 1, 2017.

  • The police can easily provide the security for the debate to take place without incident. The chose to simply cancel the permit which was issued earlier. This has to be political interference coming from on high. MO1 is highly suspect.
