Jho Low cheated me, says Najib

FORMER prime minister Najib Razak said he was cheated by Low Taek Jho, the wanted financier who allegedly masterminded the diversion of funds from 1Malaysian Development Bhd (1MDB).

Najib said available evidence now showed that money had been siphoned from the government investment arm, which was supposed to raise funds for development projects in Malaysia. 

“That’s how it looks like, concluding from the evidence available today,” he told Sinar Harian.

He also said his relationship with Low – better known as Jho Low – was purely professional, and that he was unaware of the activities of the young businessman.

He said he saw the potential of Low bringing in business from the Middle East to Malaysia.

“Whatever he did in his personal capacity, including buying a yacht, private jet or partying, I am not aware of those.”

He added that action must be taken against Low for his wrongdoing.

Najib faces a total of 38 criminal charges in relation to the 1MDB scandal, including four counts of corruption under Section 23 of the Malaysian-Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Act and 21 counts of money laundering under Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has also filed criminal charges for money laundering against Jho Low as well as his father, Low Hock Peng, over money allegedly stolen from 1MDB.

Najib also accused investment bank Goldman Sachs, lawyers and auditors for failing to protect the country’s interests in the 1MDB scandal.

“The responsibility of this bank and all the rest was to protect Malaysia’s interests.

“If they failed to protect Malaysia’s interests, how would I know?” said Najib.

He added that Goldman Sachs, lawyers and auditors had “failed in carrying out their responsibilities”.

“The system we created to protect our interests – investment banks, auditors, lawyers and all, they have not played their true role,” said Najib. – November 22, 2018.

  • If fat boy cheated you why on earth did you not pursue and charge him till the end of the world than when you first realised it?? You can't cause that shows how incompetent you are in discharging your job. You take things for granted and assume too much and were never in control of the people under and around you. In short you are the worst and lousy PM this nation ever had.

  • One wonders why he took such a long time for him to acknowledge his folly. Whether he is telling the truth or not he looks pretty hapless and stupid, this on top of his and Rosmah's avarice and love for high living inconsistent with his renumeration and legitimate financial resources. The sky is falling on him and he is feeling increasingly beleaguered and mentally challenged and his statements clearly shows he is losing control of himself and of his precarious situation. It will not be long before it is checkmate for his fate.

  • If indeed Jho Low cheated Najib, should he not lodge a polis report on the what, who, why, how and when? It is difficult to believe how a smart PM like him, who was also the Finance Minister and Chairman of 1MDB, could have been "cheated" by Mr Low. Did Najib not insist his source of fund came from and was also returned to King Abdullah, as validated by Najib who personally met with the donor?

  • I believe Najib has been done in a big think tank organization who want to control him and Malaysia. Jho Low would not have attained such capacity to plan a very complex fraud methodology at a very young age. His previous exprience was only arranging drink and sex parties for college yuppies.

    His pair of ears was still wax when he was recruited for the job. No, he and his friends were just after They have identified Rosmah and Najib and Rosmah weakness and concocted a very intricate devious plan.
