PUTRAJAYA has spent RM3.5 million on the maintenance of Equanimity since taking possession of the super yacht in August.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said this included legal fees and the costs of maintaining the vessel and crew.

“As of October 10, the total amount spent on the yacht is around RM3.5 million which, among other things, comprise the port service cost, payment to the crews, as well as maintenance and legal costs,” he said in a written reply.

Lim was responding to Umno’s Noh Omar who asked about the status of the yacht and how much it was costing the government to maintain it.

Lim also said the the court was expected to rule on the status of the ship soon.

The RM1 billion Equanimity is alleged to have been bought with money embezzled from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The Pakatan Harapan government previously said it was looking for buyers after the court ruled that the Malaysian government is the owner of the yacht. – November 21, 2018.
