R. RAMESH has had to deal with his traumatised child ever since she was beaten by a teacher in the Shah Alam school she attended.

The lorry driver said his daughter, Nivedha Nancy Ann, had not gone to school for the last two years.

“Two years she has not gone to school. After the incident she did not want to go to school any longer.

“She is still traumatised. Now school for her is the tuition classes that she attends. This year she will sit for her year three exam as a private candidate,” said the 48-year-old lorry driver.

In May 2016, Nivedha was slapped twice by Azmani Akhbar before she was hit with her own school shoes by the teacher.

The incident happened about 4pm as she was about to sit for an exam.

Nivedha sustained “soft tissue injury” and bleeding in the ears due to the assault.

The court awarded her RM40,000 in aggravated and exemplary damages, RM3,000 in general damages, and a further RM203 in special damages.

Ramesh said that he would not have lodged a police report if the injury was not serious.

He said that the teacher could have used minimal force in wanting to teach his daughter a lesson.

“I don’t mind if he wanted to teach her a lesson but not by using a shoe and slapping her twice until her ears bleed.

“That is not the way to teach students a lesson. The way is not right,” he added.

Ramesh hoped that his daughter’s case will be the last to happen to any student.

“I am happy, my family is happy that we won the case. All we wanted was justice. But the most important thing is that we do not wish this kind of incident to happen to anyone else.

“We hope this will be an eye opener to all,” he said. – November 20, 2018.
