MOHAMED Azmin Ali has retained his post as PKR deputy president despite a tough challenge from former vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

The results of the PKR elections for the term 2018-2021 was announced at the 13th congress in Shah Alam today.

Also elected were vice-presidents Nurul Izzah Anwar, Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Chua Tian Chang, and Zuraida Kamaruddin.

For the first time in the party’s history, Azmin will take his position beside long-time mentor and PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is the new president.

Anwar won the post uncontested, while Rafizi on Friday conceded defeat in the tight race for the No. 2 post.

Entrants to the party’s central leaders committee include Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shaari, Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Segamat MP S. Santhara, Selangor exco Hee Loy Sian, deputy ministers Kamarudin Jaafar and R. Sivarasa, Julau MP Larry Sng, and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Sng had an awkward moment when he was booed after his name was announced today. Sng came into the limelight recently when the Julau division he hails from had a sudden surge in members prior to the party elections.

Outgoing party president and Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had to motion to the delegates to stop the heckling.

Also elected today was Kedah Speaker Ahmad Kassim as the new permanent chairman while FT’s Osman Karim was elected the new deputy chairman. – November 18, 2018.
