INCUMBENT PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said he expects Rafizi Ramli to be given a party post if the latter loses their duel for the No. 2 spot.
“I believe my comrade, my brother, Rafizi, will have a role in the party. He has already played a role for many years.
“I am sure I can work with Rafizi to strengthen the party, to face the next general election,” he said after officiating at the 13th annual congress of the Youth and Wanita wings in Shah Alam tonight.
Azmin is said to be leading in the race for the deputy presidency, a post he has held since 2010.
Party sources told The Malaysian Insight that the economic affairs minister has the edge with a 2,700-vote majority. The results of the PKR polls, which started on September 23 and were held in stages by state, will be officially announced at this weekend’s party congress.
Azmin said he agrees with incoming PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that there should no longer be factions in the party, now that the elections have ended.
“I stressed in my speech earlier that once the elections are over, we need to close ranks, and ensure that PKR is strong under Anwar’s leadership.”
He denied that he had jumped the gun by announcing his win in a tweet two nights ago.
“When did I say I won? The tweet was based on reports on the figures. I am always careful to follow the party’s rules and procedures.” – November 15, 2018.
