Is the 2019 health budget well placed?

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng leaves the Dewan Rakyat after presenting Budget 2019, in Kuala Lumpur on November 2, 2018. The budget gets the thumbs-up for its RM28.7 billion allocation to the Healthy Ministry, but although a record sum, it is from the promised 4% of the GDP. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 12, 2018.

On November 2, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng presented the first budget from the new ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition, including allocations of operating and development expenditure to the Ministry of Health (MOH). Most observers expected the government to fulfil its pre-election manifesto promises, such as increasing MOH’s budget allocation to 4% of GDP; the implementation of “Skim Peduli Sihat”; the tackling of non-communicable and rare diseases; and strengthening partnership and collaboration with the private sector and NGOs.

    • I made police reports about 3 months after GE14 on (1) preventive Obesity (2) alleviating Corruption, addressing Dr. Mahathir's name in both of them. Can MI follow-up on both of them, to see if they have been brought to his attention, and any action taken/discussion done? TQ. MELVILLE

  • Please look into the problem of government pensioners. Those who retired more than 20 years ago when even at super scale level the take home pension is less than 3K, it is a nightmare when they have to face a simple cataract eye operation. It is time there is a uniform standard policy for all pensioners. Each time pensioners at very advance aged pensioners have to run around claiming for some controlled medicines from their original department is costing extra expenses and burden. Please help by having a clear cut policy that treats all pensioners equally..
