THE PKR central election committee (JPP) will have full authority on how to proceed with party elections in the controversial Julau division in Sarawak, said Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The outgoing party president said the committee can decide if it wants to told fresh elections in the division or accept the outcome of voting there.
The division, already in the news over its abnormal increase of members from the hundreds to 13,000 in one day, had its election results suspended on Saturday after claims of hacking in its e-voting system.
“For me, it is clear that PKR wants a clean and transparent election,” the deputy prime minister said after an event in Kuala Lumpur today.
Earlier today, Sarawak PKR information chief Vernon Kedit lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over “blatant and unbridled” vote-buying in the Julau division.
The results of Saturday’s elections in Julau have been suspended after police seized several tablets used in the e-voting process that were allegedly hacked.
PKR central election committee systems and IT unit head Alvin Teoh was arrested at Sibu airport yesterday before he boarded a flight back to Kuala Lumpur and was questioned for four hours.
This followed police reports lodged by supporters of deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli, claiming that Teoh had downloaded the “Prey anti-theft” app on some tablets used in Julau. He has been released on bail.
Supporters of incumbent No. 2 Azmin Ali believe that Teoh has been made the scapegoat for the Rafizi camp’s “failure” to get 8,000 voters to turn up and cast their ballots.
Previously, JPP chairman Rashid Din told The Malaysian Insight that the committee was mulling fresh elections in Julau.
“But no decision has been made. The affected tablets are still with the police,” he said. – November 12, 2018.
