AZMIN Ali is ahead of his sole challenger, Rafizi Ramli, in the contest for the post of PKR deputy president in the party election at the Kuala Selangor division today.

Selangor PKR chief coordinator Hassan Yusof said the economic affairs minister obtained 982 votes while Rafizi polled 389 votes.

With this, Azmin has accumulated 19,435 votes from the 22 Selangor divisions, while Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, managed 15,434 votes.

However, the party’s central election committee will only finalise the results after the box of doubtful votes has been processed.

In addition to Kuala Selangor, Azmin received support from 15 other divisions, namely Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Serdang, Subang, Kota Raja, Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Langat, Petaling Jaya (PJ) Utara, PJ Selatan, Tanjong Karang, Ampang, Pandan, Shah Alam, and Hulu Langat.

Rafizi, on the other hand, gained support from Hulu Selangor, Kelana Jaya, Kapar, Klang, Puchong, and Selayang.

Selangor, said to be Azmin’s stronghold, has the most number of registered members eligible to vote with 249,850 people.

According to Hassan, security during the election process at the Kuala Selangor district council in Bestari Jaya was tightened to prevent recurrence of the mobile phone jammer incident.

Previously, polling for the division which was supposed to take place at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium on October 28 had to be postponed due to the absence of telecommunications signals at the voting centre.

The police later confirmed that a council worker found the jammer in the seating area of the stadium while cleaning the area. – Bernama, November 11, 2018.
