RESULTS for the PKR election in Julau yesterday cannot be determined as seven tablet devices have been seized by police, the party’s election manager said.

Central committee election (JPP) chief Rashid Din said it could take a few days before the committee can tally votes in the Sarawak division, which is in controversy for a drastic surge in membership amid claims of fraud in the registration process.

“We cannot confirm the results today or tomorrow as seven tablets are with the police.  A total of 76 tablets were used for voting in Julau yesterday.

“We are waiting to se how we can get the results from the devices held by the police. We may have to wait a few days,” Rashid told The Malaysian Insight.

He also brushed off allegations by central committee candidate Zuraida Kamarudin of an inside job to allegedly “hack” the devices.

“Let Zuraida say what she wants. It’s up to her. We have nothing to hide.

“The app may not be malware, but all I know is that it can cause data on the tablet to be wiped out from afar,” Rashid said.

The free software Prey was found on some tablets in Julau, leading deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli to cry foul, alleging the use of a malware to corrupt the voting results.

He also said he saw a man “tampering” with some of the devices at the polling venue at the Julau Sports Complex.

Social media has been abuzz with chatter that Prey is actually a protective software used to track devices and wipe out sensitive data in the event the devices fall into the wrong hands.

Zuraida in her statement said that the JPP should clarify how the software was installed as only someone from the committee with the passwords could have done so. – November 11, 2018.

  • Basic understanding of software installation will tell you that no one can download and install any software without first knowing the password.
So how is that a stranger or suspect can download such a software unless he knew the password. Which means Zuraida conclusion that it being an inside job is very likely. That means means someone from JPP or their IT team!

  • The police must investigate this thoroughly so that outcome will indicate who is the culprit(s). This culprit(s) must be immediately sacked from the party
