THE States Times Review website will shut down, after being blocked by Singapore under false charges of “fake news” and “criminal defamation”, said its editor.
Alex Tan, in a post on the portal today, said he is issuing the shutdown notice voluntarily, and not due to “pressure from anyone or the dictatorship”.
“I have no intention to impugn my integrity bending forward for a scum government.”
He announced his decision to stop writing and continue his life in Australia, saying the “sacrifice of my Singaporean passport is my last gift to my beloved Singapore and Singaporeans”.
The site was blocked after controversy erupted over an article it published on Monday, alleging Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.
In a post yesterday, Tan said STR will welcome a libel suit by Lee in an Australian court.
The editor urged Lee to commence legal proceedings immediately if the prime minister insists he is innocent. – November 9, 2018.
