THE PKR elections will proceed as planned in the controversial Julau division in Sarawak tomorrow despite calls by some for polling to be suspended, pending a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe.

PKR election committee chairman Rashid Din said the party leadership has not given any instruction to suspend elections in the division.

The committee has no powers to call off polling in Julau tomorrow, he said.

“The elections in Julau will proceed tomorrow as planned. We have also not received any instruction from the party leadership,” he told The Malaysian Insight today.

“This issue is under the purview of the central leadership committee (MPP). It will need to meet but I’m not aware of any meeting. We will postpone it if there are further instructions,” Rashid told The Malaysian Insight.

Rashid was responding to suggestions that the party postpone voting in Julau until MACC has completed its investigations.

The division recently attracted attention after it was revealed that more than 13,000 new members had joined the division ahead of the party elections.

It was also revealed that some 11,000 new members were registered to just 11 addresses.

Meanwhile, JPP said it can annul the results if there is concrete evidence of impropriety from MACC.

“We will hold the elections first. If there is any new evidence from MACC, we can cancel the results and disregard the votes,” he said.

Some 29 divisions will vote in Sarawak tomorrow and Sunday. – November 9, 2018.

  • What more evidence do you need, when 11000 people are registered to just 11 addresses? You have to completely silly to ask for more proof of foul play. To think that PKR people used to complain about EC regitering huge numbers of voters to one address. Prior to GE14 they complained about the integrity of the EC . Now that they have won the GE they seem to have no problem allowing similar practices and going ahead with elections. How do we trust these people to lead Malaysia? Have we made a mistake?

  • "the party leadership has not given any instruction to suspend elections in the division"

Something is real wrong with this rotten party. It's regrettable that Anwar was pardoned when he doesn't deserve it.

  • This PKR party is in complete disarray! Either this poorly shows lack in leadership by DSAI or it is purposely intended that way to enable a particular group to make one last ditch to win the Deputy position..
This is a credibility issue. Not sure if DSAI has leadership capabilities to lead the country in 2 years.. or if DSAI is even capable?

  • Wan Azizah is also playing a bit of politics by visiting Julau (of all places) at a tie like this.
Strange. She seems to be endorsing Rafizi

  • Don't worry. If ROS take action later, PKR can blame ROS, Home Minister, Bersatu and maybe Tun M. Suddenly, they become worse than EC.
