Former minister Rafidah Aziz says she is not at all influenced by former Umno leader Mustapa Mohamed's defection to Bersatu in September. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 8, 2018.

RAFIDAH Aziz wants to join Bersatu, but does not have the time to get the membership form, reported the New Straits Times today.

The former international trade and industry minister said party chairman and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad himself had offered to provide her with a form, but she wants to go through the application process on her own.

“I thought I might as well join, and I’ve already told the chairman of Bersatu that I’ll join voluntarily,” she was quoted as saying.

“But I haven’t gotten around to getting the form. The prime minister even offered to get me the form, but I said I’ll do it myself.

“To me, your heart is more important than signing a form. The fact that I was helping to do what little I could shows more commitment than signing a piece of paper.”

The AirAsia X chairman said she is in no way influenced by former Umno leader Mustapa Mohamed’s defection to Bersatu in September.

“Don’t put me in the same group as Tok Pa (Mustapa). Excuse me, don’t do it, I’m Rafidah Aziz.”

In a reply to The Malaysian Insight, she said: “I was asked by Bernama if I was going to join Pakatan Harapan. I replied yes, I will join Bersatu. But not because other people are joining. For me, it’s a token participation.

“I have already done my little bit to help PH win the 14th general election.”

In the NST report, Rafidah rubbished talk of her returning to politics and playing a key role in Dr Mahathir’s administration.

“The problem is that people think you do something because you want something in exchange. I am 75 and retired, enough is enough,” said the former Wanita Umno head.

In the run-up to GE14, Rafidah and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin had campaigned for the Dr Mahathir-led PH. – November 8, 2018.
