THE government cannot release papers related to Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company’s (IPIC) dealings with 1Malaysia Development Bhd, as urged by former prime minister Najib Razak, as it would be sub judice, said Lim Guan Eng.
“Why talk about releasing the IPIC papers after (Najib) has been charged, knowing very well it is sub judice?” the finance minister said during a press conference at the Parliament building today.
Najib had in recent days called for documents concerning deals between IPIC and 1MDB to be made public.
Meanwhile, Lim said the latest action by the US Department of Justice proved that 1MDB was riddled with scandal.
“The DoJ indictment against Roger Ng and Low Taek Jho, and particularly Tim Leissner’s guilty plea, proves that the 1MDB scandal happened.
“That a senior former Goldman Sachs executive had admitted to wrongdoing in regard to 1MDB proves there was a scandal.”
Lim said he could not comprehend how some quarters still questioned the dealings involving 1MDB were illicit.
Najib faces 38 counts of corruption, abuse of power and money laundering in connection to 1MDB.
Today, Najib is hosting a “tea party” at Umno’s headquarters for his supporters. – November 3, 2018.
