Crashed Lion Air jet’s black box found, reports Indonesian media

A SEARCH team today found a black box belonging to a Lion Air jet that crashed into the waters of Tanjung Karawang on Monday, reported Indonesian media.

Local station TV One said divers found the black box and a piece of wreckage about 10.30am.

As of 11am, there was yet to be any word from the authorities on the find.

TV One said the black box has been taken aboard KM Baruna Jaya 1, one of the vessels involved in the search operation.

Indonesian National Search-and-Rescue Agency chief Muhammad Syaugi said four of the vessels engaged in the operation, which are equipped with sonar technology, had earlier detected “pings” from the black box.

He said divers and other search personnel then focused on the area where the signals were detected.

Flight JT610, carrying 181 passengers and eight crew members, crashed minutes after taking off from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. – Bernama, November 1, 2018.
