POLICE will quiz Bersatu members tomorrow over possible safety lapses on the part of the organisers of the Nothing To Hide 2.0 forum, which was disrupted by a fracas today.

“We have requested to meet the organisers. We have given conditions to the organisers to ensure that the safety of participants are guaranteed,” Shah Alam police chief Asst Comm Shafien Mamat told reporters at the Raja Muda Musa Hall in Shah Alam, where the forum took place, today.

“We spoke with the organisers last night and informed them of the requirements. That was our condition. If you want to hold such a forum, this is must be followed.

“The organiser’s responsibility is to ensure public safety and that no one would cause trouble and so forth,” he said.

Shafien said no police reports were lodged thus far, and that it was a general investigation.

“Give the police some room to carry out their investigations first,” he said.

Shafien said seven police officers and another 35 police personnel were present at the forum, most of whom were wearing plain clothes.

The forum featured former prime minister and Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and was attended by more than 2,000 people.

Dr Mahathir spoke about the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal before taking questions from the floor.

Also present at the forum were Dr Mahathir’s wife Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Bersatu president Muhiyddin Yassin, former Kedah Mentri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, Perkasa vice-president Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, veteran DAP lawmaker Lim Kit Siang and DAP leader Zaid Ibrahim.

The forum began at about 4pm and ended about 90 minutes later when shoes and chairs were thrown at the stage while two flares were also lit.

Police detained three youths, aged 17 to 19, suspected of causing the fracas. Two of them are college students in Shah Alam. – August 13, 2017.
