NAJIB Razak’s abrupt walkout from his interview with Al Jazeera news network inflicted more damage to his reputation than the denial of the Saudi Arabian government that they had donated RM2.6 billion to the former prime minister, said veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang.
Lim said that Najib’s semi-aborted interview was filled with dubious explanations on the source of the RM2.6 billion which was deposited into his bank account.
Earlier in the week, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Abdel Ahmad Al-Jubeir publicly declared that the money had not come from Riyadh, as claimed by Najib.
“This is because apart from Najib’s mindless cronies, ministers in his cabinet and leaders of former and current Barisan Nasional parties, no Malaysian with a modicum of judgment and wisdom would have believed Najib’s cock-and-bull stories about donations from Saudi Arabian royalty when they are nothing but abuse of power, misappropriation and embezzlement of 1MDB funds,” said Lim in a statement.
Najib walked out after some 20 minutes of the interview on the 101 East programme after saying that interviewer Mary Ann Jolley was being unfair to him by repeatedly asking questions on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.
The interview was aired yesterday.
Najib has apologised for losing his cool in the interview and said he was concerned about his family, who were being questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the time. – October 28, 2018.
