BN to get new name in rebranding exercise, says Zahid

Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamid says the coalition must continue to provide checks and balances on the ruling Pakatan Harapan. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 27, 2018.

REBRANDING Barisan Nasional would involve renaming the coalition and including new members from civil society groups.

Its chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamid, said the coalition was also working towards implementing a two-party system in the country, in which it would remain an effective alternative to Pakatan Harapan.

These would all be part of its rebranding exercise following the coalition’s fall from power after 66 years in the May general election, Zahid said.

“With the cooperation of our partners in BN and the opposition, we are moving towards creating a two-party system.

“Our role is not only to provide checks and balances to the party in power but also to be an alternative to the present government,” he said at a press conference during the MIC’s 72nd annual general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

On whether PAS would be part of the new BN, Zahid said that the matter would be left to its secretary-general, Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz.

“We leave it to him to decide on that. We will let him come up with a plan to restructure BN and on future potential partners,” the former deputy prime minister said.

He said he hoped the people would accept BN’s rebranding, especially as Pakatan continues to fail to keep its election promises.

Earlier in his speech, he said BN would decide on the Indian Muslims Congress (KIMMA), Makkal Sakti and All Malaysian Indian Progressive Front (IPF) applications to join the coalition.

Following GE14, BN has been left with only four partners – Umno, MIC, MCA and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah. – October 27, 2018.

  • Pointless, because Malaysians have learned to look beyond names, the same way they were able to see through BN.

  • Continue with your stupidity and ignorance. After 60 years you bunch of tainted politicians still do not know what the Rakyat needs are. No wonder our beloved TDM predicted your demise. If anyone in PH treads in the same direction as the Dumnos did, it will not last long too. Rakyat are now smarter. They can smell robbers, rapists and rotten rhetorics. Branding my foot, Hahaha!!
