Economy resilient to global shocks, says Dr Mahathir

Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Malaysia is in the midst of restructuring to prepare to absorb the global shocks of any financial turbulence ahead. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Kamal Ariffin, October 27, 2018.

THE Malaysian economy can absorb and navigate global uncertainties due to the trade war between the United States and China, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“Malaysia’s economy, despite global uncertainties, is able to absorb (shocks) and navigate through them. The government’s policies will always be business-friendly and open to new ideas.

“We are in the midst of restructuring to prepare to absorb the global shocks of any financial turbulence ahead.

“The government is confident that the new policies will create a stronger base between prudent spending and ensuring the private sector is given a strong boost,” the prime minister said in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking at the 2018 International Federation of Technical Analysts, Dr Mahathir also assured investors that the new government’s policies will not be detrimental to their businesses.

“The upcoming budget to be tabled on Friday has been designed to place Malaysia on a stronger footing to ensure the the prosperity of the people and the next generation.”

He said the new Pakatan Harapan government is determined to ensure that its electoral success is matched by developmental success. – October 27, 2018.
