NAJIB Razak and Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah were released on bail of RM1 million each after being slapped earlier with six counts of criminal breach of trust amounting to RM6.63 billion.

Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge Azman Ahmad imposed the bail in two sureties for Irwan and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

Azman also ordered that both accused pay RM500,000 today with the remainder being settled within 10 days.

Irwan’s son and son-in-law served as his bailors. 

Najib’s lawyers declined to name his bailors, saying the information is privileged as there is no surety.

The charges, related to funds linked to troubled state investor 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), carry a combined maximum jail term of 120 years, if the sentences were to run consecutively, and a fine.

Today’s charges bring to 38 the total number of charges Najib faces.

The former finance minister was previously charged with 32 counts of criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and misuse of power involving RM2.6 billion allegedly from 1MDB, which he claimed was a donation from Saudi Arabia, and another RM42 million from a former 1MDB subsidiary, SRC International. – October 25, 2018.
