FORMER prime minister Najib Razak and his trusted former lieutenant at the finance ministry, Irwan Siregar Abdullah, will be jointly charged with criminal breach of trust tomorrow, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said today.
Former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) director Hasanah Abdul Hamid will also be charged with CBT tomorrow in a separate court.
All three individuals will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Session’s court at 7.30am.
“Najib and Irwan will be jointly charged,” MACC said.
“As for Hasanah she will be charged with CBT but will have her case heard before the judge in a separate courtroom.”
Najib and Irwan were summoned to MACC headquarters this afternoon.
Sources told The Malaysian Insight that the two would be jointly charged tomorrow with diverting billions of ringgit from the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BRIM) programme and consolidated funds to cover 1MDB’s massive debts.
Irwan arrived in Putrajaya about 4pm, two hours after Najib.
Both men headed straight for the MACC office without speaking to the waiting crowd of journalists.
At 5pm, Najib left the building.
Sources told The Malaysian Insight that Irwan had been arrested and would spend the night in custody before he was brought to the Kuala Lumpur court tomorrow.
It has been reported that Najib faces six additional charges tomorrow, bringing the total number of charges against him to 38.
He was previously charged with 32 counts of criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and misuse of power.
Hasanah, meanwhile, was hauled up over allegations that she misappropriated US$12 million (RM49.91), which was allegedly smuggled into the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport just before the 14th general election.
She and eight other intelligence officers were remanded for several days after the anti-graft agency seized US$6.3 million from several locations. The largest stash, US$4.07 million, was found in a rented condominium in Cyberjaya. – October 24, 2018.
