Body of 9th landslide victim found

THE body of the ninth victim killed in the Paya Terubong landslide in Penang last Friday has been found today by rescuers.

The remains were found under the 13th container about 5pm.

Search-and-rescue personnel had been looking for the 13th container in the hopes of finding the remaining missing victims.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said the deceased was identified as Bangladeshi Mohamad Uzzal, 33. 

“He was found 5m in the ground. The container was smashed,” he said.

Shortly after the landslide on Friday, rescuers found two bodies. On Saturday, another two bodies were recovered. Yesterday, three bodies were found.

Meanwhile, four escaped with injuries. All the victims were foreigners. – October 22, 2018.
