NO one, irrespective of position in the party, must be spared from action if caught cheating in the ongoing PKR polls, said incoming president Anwar Ibrahim.

“The party’s election and disciplinary committees must take action against those who flout the electoral process,” he said in a statement.

Anwar said that most of the process had been conducted satisfactorily, but there were problems in certain cases with the biometric system and with undetected votes.

He said the issues were resolved by directly referring to the voters’ tablets.

“The instruction from the party leadership is clear. It must be conducted in a transparent, clean, and fair manner. All votes have to be identified and counted,” he said.

Party polls in Selangor yesterday saw members complaining that their votes were “hijacked” by others, as well as delays in voting.

Trouble brewed in the Petaling Jaya Utara, Gombak, Puchong, and Selayang divisions between supporters of Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli – both in a neck-to-neck race for the deputy president’s post.

The Light Strike Force had to be called in to control a fight that took place between two groups in Puchong.

On Saturday, there were allegations that some 1,000 votes had “gone missing” in Malacca, with the party’s election steering committee mulling re-polling in the affected divisions.

Yesterday, Azmin urged the committee to address irregularities in the party elections, saying that numerous complaints had surfaced, including vote buying and money politics, in the ongoing party polls.

“All these complaints need to be investigated fairly. Not just money politics, but there have been a lot of complaints about the (election) process.

“The committee must be responsible for ensuring an open process that is fair and just,” Azmin said after he cast his ballot at the Gombak branch. – October 22, 2018.
