TO ensure fair competition, ride-hailing service Grab would be required to use vehicles approved by the government and pay for insurance and taxes, just like the taxi companies, said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.
Currently E-hailing companies must register with the Companies Commission, or Cooperative Commission, and have their vehicles that are older than three years inspected yearly.
Currently, more than 50% of Grab’s fleet is more than three years old.
In a recent report Grab Malaysia Country head Sean Goh said Grab was in discussions with various insurance companies on new insurance requirements.
The ministry had announced that e-hailing services must provide insurance coverage for drivers, vehicles, passengers, and damages to third parties.
Grab has a year to comply with the new regulations. – October 21, 2018.
