THE Pakatan Harapan government’s frequent statements on Malaysia’s RM1 trillion debt will cause uncertainty among investors, said Najib Razak.

The former prime minister said the midterm review of the 11th Malaysia Plan tabled in Parliament yesterday proves that the national debt was just RM688 billion by international standards.

He said the RM1 trillion figure used by PH does not conform to global standards as it includes two additional elements, namely contingent liabilities and lease payments.

“The PH document yesterday confirms what Barisan Nasional and I have been saying all this while, that the real debt is RM688 billion.

“Stating it as RM1 trillion leads to a negative reaction from investors and the global market, and negatively impacts Malaysia,” the Pekan MP told reporters after visitng the D’ Kuala Pahang Food Court in the constituency today. – Bernama, October 19, 2018.
