SELANGOR PKR will continue to stand with incoming president Anwar Ibrahim in pursuing the party’s reform agenda, said state PKR chief Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin, the Economic Affairs Minister, also welcomed Anwar’s return to Parliament by way of winning the Port Dickson seat last week, saying he wished to help the PKR president-elect in matters of administration.

“As Selangor PKR chairman, we want to thank Anwar and ask for his support and guidance. Our unity with him will not break. It is for now and forever.

“I believe he will help strengthen the government,” he said at the Pidato New Malaysia programme in Shah Alam last night.

Azmin faces a challenge from Rafizi Ramli for the PKR deputy president’s post and both are neck-to-neck in the race. The second stage of party elections in Selangor will take place this weekend. Azmin took a slender lead when polls started in the state last week.

He has come under fire from Rafizi’s camp for allegedly straying from the reformasi agenda and not backing Anwar’s bid to become the next prime minister.

Last night, the former Selangor menteri besar also shared the challenges of holding an important portfolio in the cabinet.

He said although it was not easy to administer Putrajaya where debt levels had hit RM1 trillion, Pakatan Harapan was nevertheless committed to revive the country’s economy.

“When we got to Putrajaya, we saw institutions that should defend the Malays and Bumiputera, both Felda and Tabung Haji, failing in their duties.

“But the PH government assures that the institutions will continue to defend the rights of Muslims and Malays.”

Azmin also said he was jealous of the Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shaari’s various successes.

“Where I am in Putrajaya, the purse is almost empty. The debt is RM1trillion. Sometimes I feel like going back to Selangor.” – October 19, 2018.
