Najib back at MACC for more questioning

FORMER prime minister Najib Razak has been summoned once again by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to give his statement on the 1MDB scandal, Malaysiakini reported today.

This is the sixth time the former prime minister has been called to the headquarters in Putrajaya.

Sources close to the investigations said that Najib was called up in relation to 1MDB’s debt payments to the International Petroleum Investment Company.

“He was called again today following new findings made by investigators probing the 1MDB case,” said a source.

Sources also said that Najib is expected to face more 1MDB-linked charges soon.

It is belived that Najib who arrived at 10am was questioned for three hours and managed to dodge the media.

Sources said the questioning by the graft busters was a continuation of Tuesday’s session, when he was grilled for almost seven hours.

He was called to facilitate investigations under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which concerns abuse of power to receive gratification, according to the sources.

So far, he has been slapped with 32 charges, 25 of which are related to 1MDB on money laundering and abuse of power.

Another seven charges are related to former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International, which involve money laundering, abuse of power, and criminal breach of trust. – October 18, 2018.
