ACTIVIST Hishamuddin Rais will be questioned by police this afternoon over a blog post allegedly accusing Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim of bribing a senior Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officer to cover up the allegations against him.

Hishamuddin confirmed that he will be at the Sentul district police headquarters this afternoon but stressed what was posted in his blog was forwarded from a WhatsApp chat group.

“Yes I will be called up for questioning and it is about a blog post linking Azeez to abuse of power,” the social activist told The Malaysian Insight.

“However, the details in my blog post were not mine. It was from a Whatsapp chat group which was forwarded to me.”

The blog post alleged that Azeez had bribed MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki to cover up the investigations against him.

Azeez, who is the former Tabung Haji chairman, was arrested two weeks ago by the MACC and remanded for 10 days.

He was reportedly investigated over the RM500,000 in cash and RM1.2 million in various currencies which were seized in raids at his houses in Selangor and Kedah in May.

Hishamuddin claimed he had no idea who Azam Baki is.

“Who is Azam Baki? I don’t know who he is,” he said.

In the blog post, Hishamuddin also urged Putrajaya to investigate Azeez’s close links to former Treasury secretary-general Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, Indonesian businessman Djoko Tjandra (Mulia Group), Gulzar Mohamad, Gnanaraja Gnanasundram (Yayasan Usaha Ventures Malaysia), Tony Fernandes (AirAsia), D. Ramesh (Pelita Group) and Habibur Rahman Kadir Shah (MAS).

Hishamuddin’s lawyer Zaid Malek said police had called up Hishamuddin after a report was lodged by Ramesh who is the director of Pelita Group, the largest nasi kandar restaurant chain in the country. – October 16, 2018.
