PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has dismissed rumours that he is heading to Kedah for talks on a leadership change in the state administration, saying that he will instead be presenting an award to the Sultan.
“I’m going to Kedah to present an award to the Kedah Sultan. There are no other issues,” Dr Mahathir told reporters in Parliament today.
Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah is set to be installed as Kedah’s 29th Sultan on October 22.
Rumours circulated over the weekend that Dr Mahathir’s son and Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir will step down from his state post in order to take over from Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
The state government has denied the rumour that Johari Abdul will take over the role of Menteri Besar.
Muhyiddin removed a pancreatic tumour in Singapore on July 12 and is due to undergo treatment for cancer. – October 15, 2018.
