‘Datuk' settles dispute with car park attendant

A “DATUK” who was caught on camera allegedly assaulting a car park attendant has since apologised to his purported victim.

In an undated video, the scene of the apology looks like an upscale restaurant where the “Datuk”, believed to be a director of a telecommunication company, settles the matter with the victim.

The car park attendant can also be heard apologising to the “Datuk” in the clip.

“I’m working and you are also working,” the “Datuk” is heard saying to the car park attendant.

It also appears that the car park attendant also expressed his regret over the incident.

“I am just a worker, and I apologise (to you). If I had known you were there, I’d open the (boom) gate. I have told the management not to prolong the issue,” the younger man replied.

To this the “Datuk” said: “It’s okay no, we are both working. We can become friends.”

Both then posed for a photo, which has since gone viral.

It was reported yesterday that the police have recorded a statement from the “Datuk”.

In the video of the allegedly assault, which had gone viral, the “Datuk” was caught on camera berating and assaulting the carpark attendant at a hotel in the capital. The incident is believed to have happened on September 18.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid said the suspect’s statement was taken in Brickfields and the investigation would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

“This is a legal summons case, which means an arrest cannot be made without a warrant under Section 323 of the Penal Code,” he had said when contacted by Bernama.

Ruslan was quoted as saying, based on the parking attendant’s report, the man became aggressive when the attendant refused to raise the exit bar at the hotel after the man was found not to have paid for a RM3 parking ticket.

He said the parking attendant lodged a police report on September 19.

When contacted today, Ruslan said the police will still submit the investigation paper (IP) to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) despite the “Datuk” apologising to the attendant.

“It is up to him if he wants to apologise or to hug the man. We will still investigate and submit the IP to the DPP. The DPP will decide whether to charge or not.

“The police will still probe the matter,” Ruslan told The Malaysian Insight. – October 12, 2018.

  • The same action should be taken on this arrogant Datuk thug as was done with the young Chinese Datuk samseng who assaulted a few Rela men on duty last year. These specimens are cowards who dare to lash out and bully anyone whom they think are soft targets. Thank God for CCTVs and smartphones which clearly expose their cruel nature. In this case, the thug didn't think twice before exhibiting such aggression because after all the target is a young Indian boy and what could he do? But that young Indian and the Rela men, no matter what their position in life, are people with feelings and are vulnerable. This arrogant rogue has to feel the full weight of the law even though I'm sure there have been attempts on his part to use his connections to 'settle'. No settle, only prosecution, trial and punishment. We have to draw a line somewhere and say enough is enough. The rich and arrogant cannot be allowed to ride roughshod over others without serious consequences.

  • I hope PDRM still proceeds with their assault report. Do not give the impression that you can "settle" violence with money. is there any bribing involved?
