WIKILEAKS has slammed as a “fabrication” former Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng’s claim that it published details on offshore bank accounts allegedly owned by Anwar Ibrahim.
The whistle-blower website, in a tweet, said while it has published significant information on Malaysian politicians, it has not done so in the case alleged by Liang.
“Claims spread in Malaysia that @WikiLeaks published @anwaribrahim’s bank account details are false. Liang Teck Meng is pushing a fabrication.”
Liang, years ago, claimed that PKR president-elect Anwar has 20 accounts in the US, Israel, Singapore and China, containing millions.
It was reported that he said information on the accounts, such as the owner’s name and passport number, was available on WikiLeaks, which came to global attention through its publication of stolen US diplomatic cables.
The Malay Mail yesterday reported PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil as saying the claim is “old and baseless news”.
He warned that the party will take action against those who continue to spread unverified information in attempts to discredit Anwar, who is contesting the Port Dickson by-election on October 13. – October 5, 2018.
