DOUBTS over the findings of the first post-mortem conducted on the body of former Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan had prompted his brother to request for his remains to be exhumed, said The Star newspaper.

“I was told the cause of death was due to a phone blast. I am a medical doctor with 30 years of experience and I felt the cause of death is not right,” Dr Malek Hassan was quoted as saying by The Star.

Dr Malek made the request with the police for a second post-mortem on September 24 and the request was granted by the Petaling Jaya magistrates’ court on Monday.

The second post-mortem is scheduled for October 8.

Nazrin died in a fire at his home in Mutiara Homes, Petaling Jaya, on June 14.

The 47 year-old was found with 30% burns to his body which initial reports stating that the fire might have been caused by his exploding mobile phone.

The phone was reportedly being charged by his bedside while he slept.

The police had reclassified the case as murder after the Fire and Rescue Department found traces of petroleum at the scene.

Several people have since been questioned in the murder investigation, including Nazrin’s wife and her ex-husband, a married couple related to his widow and Nazrin’s two teenage stepsons. – October 3, 2018.
