MALAYSIAN student leaders in Australia are bringing their organisations together in an online session today to discuss how they can be more relevant in the aftermath of the May 9 general election.

Students all over Australia and parents and the public are invited to follow and join in the discussions at three centres, and also in an interactive web seminar that the Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia (MASCA) has put together.

A panel representing five student organisations will speak on whether the groups are fulfilling the wants and needs of students, and how the results of the 14th general election will affect the way they should run the organisations.

“With the shift in the geopolitical climate in Malaysia, a lot of us are questioning the relevance and future direction of most of our organisations, especially with regards to the role of advocacy and activism,” said a spokesman for MASCA.

Panellists will come from Kelab Umno, Malaysian Progressives in Australia, Sydney University Association of Malaysian Students, Adelaide University Malaysian Students Association, and MASCA National.

Questions for the panellists may be submitted here.

The discussion will be held from 6pm to 8pm (Malaysia time 4-6pm) at Napier G03, University of Adelaide, Hancock Library (Level 3, Hancock West), the Australian National University, and Room 412, Main Library, University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Questions and issues may be raised from the floor and via the web seminar.

The event comes close on a tour of Australia and New Zealand by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, who ended his trip last Sunday. – October 3, 2018.

  • Students should now focus on improving education and protecting the environment as big projects are now in limbo. Time to envisage a future based on sustainable development and upskilling. They should be the visionaries of the future
