FORMER federal court judge Gopal Sri Ram is leading the prosecution team against prominent Umno lawyer Mohammad Shafee Abdullah, who is expected to be charged with money-laundering.
Sri Ram, who was Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyer in his second sodomy case, is leading a team of deputy public prosecutors from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, comprising Kamal Baharin Omar, Ahmad Akram Gharib, Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, and Regine Sin.

Sri Ram was appointed senior public prosecutor on August 31 to assist the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ pending case of the misappropriation of funds linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Shafee, who was the lead prosecutor in the sodomy case, has yet to be brought to the Kuala Lumpur sessions court , where he is expected to be charged under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (Amla) 2001.
He will be represented by six lawyers – Harvinderjit Singh, Chetan Jethwani, Hasnal Rezua Merican, Sarah Abishegan, Rahmat Rezlan, and Mohamad Farhan Shafee, who is his son.
Shafee grabbed headlines recently after PKR president-election Anwar Ibrahim said last week that he received an affidavit by an officer of the Attorney-General’s Chambers claiming that Shafee received RM9.5 million from former prime minister Najib Razak in 2014. – September 13, 2018.
