DR Mahathir Mohamad’s latest allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are only meant to pit Umno leaders against each other, said Umno Supreme Council member Bung Moktar Radin.

The Kinabatangan MP said he believed that the slinging of allegations was merely a political game for the former prime minister.

“I don’t see the deputy prime minister organising (anything) to bring down the prime minister.

“What I know is that, this is a political propaganda to pit Umno leaders against each other,” he told reporters in Parliament today.

He said the opposition, including Dr Mahathir, had resorted to playing up issues like the 1Malaysia Development Berhad  scandal and the goods and services tax, but the public already knew that the claims were false.

“I’m very sure, 100%, that it’s just a political strategy by Dr Mahathir.”

The former prime minister yesterday reminded Zahid of the RM230 million in assets the latter had as Umno Youth chief.

He also said Zahid had sought his support when the latter was made deputy prime minister, replacing Muhyiddin Yassin.

On Sunday, Zahid, who is also home minister, had attacked Dr Mahathir’s Indian heritage, disclosing the Pakatan Harapan chairman’s old identity card details at a Kelana Jaya Umno delegation meeting.

The card allegedly showed his name as “Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty”.

This prompted widespread condemnation, including from DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang, once a sworn foe of Dr Mahathir, and several reports have been lodged against Zahid. – August 2, 2017.
