Who do we turn to now, asks Hisham

FORMER defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Malaysia risks being left on its own in the fight against terrorism after the Pakatan Harapan government decided to cancel the Saudi-backed King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP).

Hishammuddin said by passing up on the offer to collaborate with Saudi Arabia, Malaysia is on “the losing end”.

“We cannot act alone, if they want to cancel ties with Saudi Arabia, what are their plans?” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Riyadh will now offer to join forces with other countries, said the former Umno vice-president.

“I believe Saudi has other options in other countries. If we choose not to be with them, they will make a decision to be with others. The ones who are in the losing end is us.”

Defence Minister Mohammad Sabu must clarify what is Malaysia’s new position and plans to fight terrorism, he said.

Mohammad said earlier this week that the KSCIP will be cancelled, and its temporary office in Kuala Lumpur would cease operations. – August 8, 2018.

  • Who were the financiers behind the WTC attack? Its the Saudi government. Who funded AQ from the start? Its the Saudi government again. Therefore its a damn good thing that we stop working with the Saudis.

  • It is better not to collaborate with the Saudis on the KSCIP. Why bring unnecessary terrorist attention to the nation through such a programme?
Malaysia through strategic collaborations with nations around the region and within the capabilities of her own enforcement and counter terrorism units should be able to establish a strong impenetrable force to fight terrorism.

  • Malaysia can contribute greatly to reducing terror by toning down on its own religious and jihadist rhetoric. Itis important to walk the talk when it comes to moderation. Despite being quietly granted RM2.6b allegedly in recognition of our then PM's internationally recognised efforts to fight ISIL, Malaysia was still the major contributor of resources to ISIS from South East Asia.

  • If you had stopped your cousin when he started to do the wrong things, then Umno would still be intact with sufficient funds. You were asleep now you talk. Please shut up n go back to your legal practice n pray, pray n pray.

  • Why do we turn to someone, dear ex-Defence Minister? Surely, we have confidence in the capability of our own people to act alone! If all fail, we can wave our kris in the air, of course, only in a safe enviroment! Don't be a smart-ass, let another do thier job
