FORMER defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Malaysia risks being left on its own in the fight against terrorism after the Pakatan Harapan government decided to cancel the Saudi-backed King Salman Centre for International Peace (KSCIP).
Hishammuddin said by passing up on the offer to collaborate with Saudi Arabia, Malaysia is on “the losing end”.
“We cannot act alone, if they want to cancel ties with Saudi Arabia, what are their plans?” he said at the Parliament lobby today.
Riyadh will now offer to join forces with other countries, said the former Umno vice-president.
“I believe Saudi has other options in other countries. If we choose not to be with them, they will make a decision to be with others. The ones who are in the losing end is us.”
Defence Minister Mohammad Sabu must clarify what is Malaysia’s new position and plans to fight terrorism, he said.
Mohammad said earlier this week that the KSCIP will be cancelled, and its temporary office in Kuala Lumpur would cease operations. – August 8, 2018.

Malaysia through strategic collaborations with nations around the region and within the capabilities of her own enforcement and counter terrorism units should be able to establish a strong impenetrable force to fight terrorism.
