ISLAMIST party PAS said it will support Barisan Nasional’s candidate at the Sungai Kandis by-election because the party, which has pledged to oppose Pakatan Harapan, has no better options.

Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, a member of the party’s Ulama Syura Council, insisted that PAS was not officially cooperating with BN but was merely focused on its objective of defeating PH.

“We cannot vote for PH. So if we don’t vote PH, who else will we vote for?” the Kuala Nerus MP told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, members from the party’s Kota Raja Youth wing questioned the need for the party to organise programmes which appeared to campaign for BN’s Sungai Kandis candidate Lokman Noor Adam.

“We don’t have any political cooperation with Umno because any cooperation needs to be decided at the Syura Council,” he said.

“We only have a relationship from a strategic perspective for the Sungai Kandis by-election; we just want to send a message that the people have rejected PH because their promises have not been fulfilled.

“Our focus is on rejecting PH.”

Mohd Khairuddin has urged PAS supporters in Sungai Kandis to vote for Lokman as the PH government has failed to defend Islam.

Deputy chief Mohd Najib Arshad said the content of several PAS leaders’ speeches recently did not appear to be in line with party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan’s official statement last month that clarified that PAS was not involved in this Saturday’s by-election. – August 1, 2018.

  • Isn't supporting a kleptocrat party unislamic? If PAS' policy is to support Islam, why this unholy alliance?
