'Langkawi by-election' was just a joke, says Annuar Musa

UMNO secretary-general Annuar Musa has retracted his remarks on a possible by-election in Langkawi, the federal seat held by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Ketereh MP said it was a joke and people should not be offended.

“It can happen anywhere, maybe in Langkawi, maybe in Bera or even Ketereh. I said it in jest, do not take offence.

“It can be anybody, it can be Ketereh, it can be Langkawi, so do not take offence,” Annuar told reporters when met at Parliament’s lobby today.

Bersatu members had been up in arms over Annuar’s remarks on the 93-year-old Dr Mahathir and the possibility of more by-elections while on the campaign trail for Barisan Nasional in Sungai Kandis two nights ago.

Dr Mahathir is also leads Bersatu and is chairman of Pakatan Harapan.

Annuar had said that by-elections were “a gift from God” for BN to test its strength and machinery.

“We don’t know where the next one will be. Maybe it’s Langkawi or maybe it’s Bera. Let’s just hope it’s not in Ketereh,” he had said.

Today, he apologised to those who felt offended.

“If anybody feels offended, I will apologise, there is no problem,” Annuar said.

He added he had nothing against Dr Mahathir and respected him as Malaysia’s leader.

“He is my boss, he is good man, he is the prime minister, he is an elected representative and he has job to do.

“You must respect the prime minister, do not make a fool of him. He is a statesman, he is our leader,” Annuar said. – July 26, 2018.

  • It's in moments like this, that I am reminded of that Bee Gees song, that goes like this, "I started a joke, which started the whole world crying. But I didn't see that the joke was on me." Guess who the joke is on, Annuar?

  • Thank You Anuar Musa. You just confirmed that Umno party with you guys at the helm can not be taken seriously as an opposition front. You reflected Umno a bragging thuggish party without civility and only good in idiotic bantering coupled by non functional devoided intellectual prowess. Clearly a party of idiots and fools screaming thru' the arse hole to be heard. Now I understand why the Oxfart Khairy was so f@#$&#g disappointed with what Umno is now with such remnants of party leaders going nowhere but with abundance of exceptional stupidity on the rise. No wonder he rejected all the post offered to him.

  • This guy hasn't change a bit even after the heavy fall of Bn umno. Sarcastic, rude, tongue twisting, shameless, ungrateful and hypocrisy are his trade of character. MACC should investigate him on the mara scandal and other corruptions activities as well. For them anything they say rudely or immorally are just jokes. If others ought to do the same, he'll invoke religious and race sentiments. Low life cheap politician he is..
