UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he offered a party position to veteran Tengku Razaleigh Tengku Hamzah, but remained cryptic on what it was.
The former deputy prime minister said he met with Tengku Razaleigh, who contested against him for the Umno presidency, yesterday to discuss the position, as the latter was a democrat.
“I have discussed several things with him on the role he can play to revive Umno.
“He will make a decision,” Zahid told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.
The Bagan Datuk lawmaker said Tengku Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, was very receptive of his offer and the idea of taking Umno forward.
“I had a good discussion with Ku Li because he is a democrat. He is very positive even though he had less votes. I believe the winner cannot take all,” Zahid said.
Ku Li contested against Zahid and Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin for the Umno presidency, but came in last.
Zahid also revealed today that he offered Khairy three positions in Umno but he turned it down. – July 25, 2018.
